Modern Family/Cougar Town/The Whole Truth/The Defenders/Reality

Modern Family – The Old Wagon
This show deserved the Emmy they received this year.  The Dunphy family adventure of getting rid of their old station wagon was a riot.  I like that Phil isn’t a dorky as he started out to be, but he is still dorky enough to make him very funny.  The way he remembered the buyer’s name was great and then creating a “time machine” for Claire was very sweet.
We revisited Mitchell’s fear of birds from last year, and that made me pause the dvr, because I was laughing so hard.  I loved that Cam had to rescue him from the castle by taking off the roof.
Gloria realizing Manny is starting to grow up was also funny and sweet.  I can totally imagine her in the future, being an overbearing, protective, intrusive mother-in-law.  No girl is ever going to be good enough for her son, even if he does become the womanizer he seems destined to be.

Cougar Town – All Mixed Up
I don’t think 24 hours apart is that much to ask, especially since Jules and Grayson’s relationship is still fairly new.  I would hope I would be with someone who would understand the need for some time apart.
I feel like Jennifer Aniston’s casting, and her character, was strictly a stunt and while I like her, and her chemistry with Courtney Cox, I just wasn’t impressed.  Her character was annoying and I didn’t believe her as a therapist for one minute.  That being said, it was nice to see her back on television.
Travis is going off to college, but I really hope something happens that keeps him living at home.  I like that out of all of them, he tends to be more mature than most of the adults.
I love Carolyn Hennesy, and I really hope we get to see more of Barb this year.  Her popping in for a line or two, usually dripping with double-entendre, is great, but I would really like more of her.

The Whole Truth – Pilot
I wasn’t sure if I was even interested in this show, but a friend convinced me to give it a try.  I like both Rob Morrow and Maura Tierney, and I liked the way the first episode was done.  I enjoyed the back and forth between the defense and the prosecution, and I liked the back and forth between Jimmy and Kathryn.
I really like the fact that after the verdict is in the audience was shown what the truth of the case was.  I will watch this show again, and I think with the two leads it has it potential.  It didn’t do well in the overnight ratings, so it may not last, but I will keep watching for now.

The Defenders – Pilot
Didn’t hate this show, but didn’t love it either.  It wasn’t anything new, it was the same old formula, and I didn’t find any of the characters all that likeable.  I have already taken this one off my dvr.  I don’t think I can do two legal dramas in one night, and I am going to stick with The Whole Truth instead.  At least it’s trying to do something a bit different.  The Defenders didn’t try anything new.

Reality – Survivor and Hell’s Kitchen
I am not going to spend time here on reality television, even though I do watch some reality TV, unless something really big happens.  To be honest, I have Hell’s Kitchen on the dvr, but haven’t watched it yet.  As for Survivor, Shannon was voted off and I say goodbye and good riddance.  He came across as racist, sexist, homophobic, and annoying.  See ya!

  1. I think this is the first time you have written a post where I don't watch a single show! I did try to record Modern Family because of the Emmy and The Whole Truth because of the cast, but my DVR messed up. Maybe I can catch them on demand.

Even when I don't watch the shows, I enjoy reading your thoughts. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Shelly, I think both are worth looking for, either On Demand or on line. I think you will really enjoy Modern Family.
