Blue Bloods – After Hours

     I enjoyed getting a bit deeper into Danny and Linda’s relationship.  It was nice getting a little background on what Danny was like when they met and how far he has come.  It was also really great to hear that he hasn’t ever strayed from Linda, and that he has no interest in being with anyone else.  Even when he was dancing with the witness/suspect/victim you could tell he only did it to ingratiate himself with her, and he wasn’t into it.  I was really afraid a photo of Danny dancing with her was going to end up on Page Six, and Linda would get pissed.  I was pleasantly surprised they didn’t go that route.

     I am completely and totally over this Blue Templar story.  They need to either move it forward faster or drop it.  I feel like they just don’t know what to do with Jamie’s story, so they are just dragging this Blue Templar stuff out.  Let’s get on with it people!

Blue Bloods – Re-Do

     A violent murderer and rapist named Reed was released from prison due to mistakes made in the DNA lab at the time of his arrest.  Another man was also released at the same time for the same reason, who immediately started to intimidate his ex-wife.  I don’t remember what he did to get locked up in the first place but she had an order of protection against him, and he stayed just far enough away from her to not be in violation of the order.  The cops couldn’t arrest him for being outside her home, but Jamie and his partner did speak to him and asked him to move on.

     The cops stayed on Reed’s house, but Danny and Jackie eventually discovered he had a tunnel built in his basement that lead to a neighbor’s bomb shelter.  He got away from them, and after a couple of red herring, we found out he was going after Erin.  He got to her office and killed a cleaning man, put on his clothes and went after Erin.  She saw the dead man, and ran before Reed could get to her.

     She got herself into an office, and dialed her father before Reed found her, then she hit him with a fire extinguisher and ran again, but Reed caught up with her.  He was telling her about what he was going to do to her, when Frank showed up.  Reed put Erin in front of himself as a shield while Frank trained a gun on him, and Frank just shot him in the head.  Good thing he’s a good shot!

     I thought this episode was a great one because it really put most of the family together in their jobs, and also really showed them interacting both professionally and personally.  The fact they kept checking on each other was great.  Only Jamie was kind of out of the loop this episode, but he is still trying to figure out what the Blue Templar had to do with his other brother’s death.

Blue Bloods – Chinatown

     Jamie was in Chinatown meeting the FBI contact that wanted him to investigate the Blue Templar, but he told her that he is out, and will not work with them in the investigation.  He then overheard a possible kidnapping, tried to stop it, and chased one of the suspects until the suspect got hit by a car and killed.  The other suspect escaped, but Danny and his partner Jackie find him and arrest him.  Erin informed them that the DA’s office didn’t have enough to charge him so they had to release him.  That, in turn, got him killed by his gang, the Triad.  They figured out who this guy was working with, how, and why, and saved the young woman from having her baby sold to adoption.

     Because of this incident, Jamie was investigated by IAD.  The investigator was told to be especially vigilant by the Commissioner, so there were no allegations of favoritism or impropriety.  They were very suspicious of his conversation with the mystery woman before he heard the possible kidnapping, and he couldn’t tell them it was an FBI agent.  She finally came forward, but not as herself; she came forward with exactly the cover story Jamie had provided to IA.  It was very helpful to him, and IA closed the investigation, but now Jamie owes her, so I don’t think this Blue Templar storyline is anywhere near done.

Blue Bloods – Brothers

     This episode did not keep my attention, at all.  I am not sure if it was the storyline, or the fact that it was Friday night after a long week.  This week’s storyline was about brothers, one of which did good things like run and after school learning center and the other who was a criminal and leader of a gang.  The good brother’s center ran out of money, and the other brother kept the center running by giving the center money from his illegal activities.  Erin, the only Reagan sister, and an ADA, goes after the good brother to testify against the bad brother, but does it by threatening to indict and prosecute the good brother for money laundering and other charges. 

     Eventually the bad brother basically rescues the good brother by agreeing to allow his brother to turn against him and testify.  However, then bad brother gets killed by his own gang for allowing his brother to work with the ADA.  Erin goes to Danny, and he helps set up, and then catch, the new shot callers in the gang. 

     The other part of this storyline was the relationship between the Reagan brothers, Danny and Jamie.  Jamie is still working with the FBI to investigate Blue Templar and I think he was starting to think his brother was killed by people with the underground police club.  He also couldn’t understand why Danny was riding him so hard.  Eventually Frank explained to Jamie that Danny was so hard on him because he was trying to make Jamie bulletproof, because Danny just couldn’t deal with the thought of losing another brother.

     I really like the family relationships on this show.  From Frank’s father Henry to the great-grandchildren, every time there is a scene with the whole family around the table the screen lights up.  They really do feel like a family, and it’s great to watch their chemistry.

Blue Bloods – Smack Attack

     Four teens take a drug at a party and three of them die.  The girl who took the drug survives.  Jamie and his training officer partner arrived at the party because of a noise complaint, and Jamie is the one who does CPR on the girl and helps her survive.  He then has to tell her that her boyfriend died.

     Danny and his partner arrive and question the girl.  Then they go to talk to the girl who threw the party, who says she doesn’t do drugs, but believes they were purchased from someone at school (a private Catholic school).  They go to the principal and ask permission to search all of the school lockers.  He says he can’t approve that, so Frank goes to see the Bishop, who eventually approves the search.

     Danny and his partner Jackie find drugs in several lockers, using a drug sniffing dog.  I wonder if this is a real drug sniffing dog, or a dog actor just trained to behave as a police dog.  They also get a call that another two people have died from taking the drug they are looking for, Mcat.  Eventually they found out those two deaths were unrelated.

     After a couple of red herrings and a wild goose chase or two, they eventually discover that the female vice-principal of the school and one of the boys that died had an affair, and she was the one who gave him the drugs, after their affair ended.

     There was some Reagan family drama as well.  Erin’s daughter was upset that her mother doesn’t really talk to her, trust her, or want to give her any freedom.  Frank talked to her, and the girl took it to heart, and tried to do something nice for her mother by making her dinner.  She actually seemed incredibly bratty at first, but in the end seemed very sweet.  She seemed to really be trying to understand some of what her mother was dealing with and going through.

Blue Bloods – What You See

     There is a serious terrorist threat to NYC and both Commissioner Frank and Danny are involved in trying to find him.  Even Jamie gets in on it when he stops a dark SUV for trying to run a checkpoint, but he was just stoned.

     Danny had a previous relationship with the main suspect.  He had come in a couple of years early as the victim of a crime.

     They spent the first half of the ep racially profiling suspected drivers of SUVs at checkpoints throughout the city.  Then Danny and his partner discovered that the main suspect’s sister-in-law, a white, American woman who was an extremist, radical Muslim convert, was possibly the driver of the bomb-rigged SUV.  She also had her son in the car with her.

     Danny comes very close to being blown up, as first detective on the scene, but he is able to talk her down enough that she disarms herself just long enough for Danny to subdue her.  He gets in a bit of trouble over it, but really everyone is just proud and relieved. 

     I can’t even begin to imagine what it’s like to be a police officer in any big city, but especially in NYC, in a post 911 world.  I knew this show would eventually have to tackle a terrorist threat, and I would be surprised if it isn’t revisited again at some point.  I thought it was really well done, personalizing to this one family and how they experience this particular day.

Blue Bloods – Officer Down

     I am really enjoying this show, and the characters.  This episode centered on the death of a beat cop, and catching her killers.  Her killer was eventually shot and killed by the police, who basically used him as target practice.

     The family dynamics made this episode for me.  I don’t really have much to say about this episode, but I did enjoy it.
