Modern Family/Cougar Town/The Whole Truth

Modern Family – Earthquake

Nathan Lane guest starred as an over-the-top friend of Cameron and Mitch’s.  He was funny, and it was just enough of him, without being too much.
I think all of the family dynamics on this show are really great.  Maybe a little heightened from reality, but fairly realistic.  I thought it was great that when the earthquake hit, they all checked in with each other right away.
Phil having to deal with putting the earthquake straps on the cabinet while Claire was trapped in the bathroom was great.  She thought he had already done it, and he didn’t want her to know he hadn’t so he fixed it while she was trapped in the bathroom.  I thought that was pretty funny.  The only thing I didn’t buy was the fact that the plumber didn’t just pop the hinges on the door and take it off the frame.  They should have been out of that bathroom in about a minute.

Cougar Town – Makin’ Some Noise
Jules is having a hard time letting go of Travis.  Her friends are trying to help her, but don’t want to get smothered in the process.  I think Trav’s new roommate may be a fun addition to the cast, but not at the expense of Barb time!  Where was Barb this week????
I loved the whole tight jeans conversation that the ladies had with Grayson.  The fact that Jules relaxed her whole body, but couldn’t crumple to the floor because her jeans were so tight they were holding her up really made me laugh.

The Whole Truth – Judicial Discretion
I was a big fan of the show Numbers which stared Rob Morrow and Judd Hirsch as son and father.  It’s very strange to see them playing attorney and client/judge instead.  Were they playing to the Numbers fans, or was Judd Hirsch really the best person for this role.
I liked that in the end we didn’t just see what really happened, but the Judge was re-arrested under Federal RICO charges and they have some very incriminating evidence on tape.
Rob Morrow’s character is starting to get a bit more likeable for me.  We got to see a bit about how much he loves his children, and that he will do whatever he can to keep them safe.

In the news, two shows (Lone Star and My Generation) have been cancelled.  Another show, Outlaw with Jimmy Smits has suspended production and put the show on hiatus, never a good sign.  Raising Hope is the first new show of the season to receive a full season pickup.  Lastly, new show Haven and returning show Sons of Anarchy have both been renewed for next season, Haven for its second season, and SoA for its fourth.
